Tiffin 1
Sculpture & Installation
Interpretation
In this work the design of a simple steel tiffin is transformed into designs of various shapes and sizes and colours today. The design that I have chosen is the classic one still used widely among the labour class. I observed that most labourers and other workers own this tiffin that is made of either three or four tires. They often eat enough only to fill their stomach and remain alive. The tiffin design is such to make it easily movable and portable. In my work the change in materiality and scale completely omits its function as easy handling and portability. I look at the tiffin as a reward for the twelve hour labour that a man does. It takes so much sweat to fill one tiffin that it becomes much more than solely a tiffin. I speak for the efforts that it takes to be able to fill the stomach of yourself and your family.
